Zone Ratings

Use the USDA map as a guide to hardiness, and carefully check the zone ratings of plant stock or seeds. Ibes Landscaping only purchases stock that was grown in a northern climate. But when you go to the nursery and purchase from outside your own zone, be sure to check the zone rating.

Go to the following link to find out what zone we are in:

Hardiness is an indicator of plant health and survival, rather than a guarantee of either success or failure. If you keep a few of these variables in mind, you’re less likely to feel either tricked or betrayed by a plant’s rating:

  • We can be in two zones at once.

  • Plants may survive north of their zones.

  • Plants rated for your zone may not survive; at the same time, plants not considered hardy may survive, either because of annual variations or microclimates.

  • Zone ratings are only approximate guides to a plant’s northern limit of cold-hardiness.

  • Hardiness will vary from the northern to the southern edge of a zone.
